Sneak Preview: How IoT Is Transforming the Workplace

I’m excited to announce that I’ll be speaking at IFMA World Workplace Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 10:25 AM with BGIS’s Lorri Rowlandson and Signify’s Ujjaini Dasgupta! We are discussing the various ways in which technology can enhance employee experience. My talk will cover the potential impact of the Internet of Things.

As data storage and sensor costs have decreased, the Internet of Things has begun to penetrate the workplace. This penetration tends to manifest itself in three ways:

(1) Crowdsourcing human data

(2) Tapping into and consolidating underutilized, siloed data residing in existing infrastructure, and

(3) Creating new sources of data from sensors and other systems

These new forms of data collection lead to more informed decision-making by man (e.g. a head of real estate deciding to sublease a floor) or machine (e.g. a building management system deciding to adjust airflow based on knowledge of occupancy). Though the methodologies and use cases of IoT are hugely varied, this explosion of technology, if applied thoughtfully, can lead to a healthier, happier, more productive workplace.

To get the full scoop, you’ll have to join me in my great home state of North Carolina on October 4th. Register here.
